Marlins are represented by somewhere around 10 species spread across two genera: Istiophorus and Makaira. These species are even further differentiated into a number of subspecies. The exact classification and variety of species/subspecies are subject matter to ongoing scientific discussion due to the marlins’ huge distribution and morphological variations.
